Bet on the Clonmel Oil Chase at Clonmel Racecourse

The biggest race on the Clonmel race card is undoubtedly the Clonmel Oil Chase which has seen some notable winners over the years. This Grade 2 race takes place over a distance of two miles and four furlongs, with horses aged five or over entitled to enter the race which requires a combination of speed and stamina.

The race has been in operation since 1992 and was originally run over a distance of three miles, with the Clonmel Oil Chase achieving Grade 3 status in 1995 and then promoted to Grade 2 a year later, with Doran’s Pride having scored four victories in this race between 1997-2000.

Trainer Michael Hourigan was responsible for those performances and he also saddled Beef Or Salmon in 2002 before winning with Mossbank five years later, with Willie Mullins achieving a great deal of recent success in the race and Douvan is among the horses that have won this race for him.

What Are the Other Notable Races at Clonmel Racecourse?

Clonmel Racecourse has race meetings throughout the year and you can enjoy various race cards boasting flat and national hunt meetings, although the Mercedes-Benz Novices Hurdle sticks out and this is a Grade 3 race which has seen Willie Mullins repeatedly win at the track.

Don Poli is probably the most notable racecard winner of this race for Mullins and this encounter has been in operation since 2003, with the race having enjoyed Grade 3 status since 2013.

There is also the T. A. Morris Memorial Mares Chase where we have seen some brilliant battles taking place between some of the leading mares in Ireland and it’s been Shattered Love who has dominated in the past couple of years for trainer Gordon Elliott.
