Newbury Racecourse Odds featuring Lockinge Stakes

Horse racing meetings have been taking place at Newbury Racecourse for over a century, with this track providing courses for National Hunt and Flat racing depending on the time of year.

It’s a course which has been regularly attended by the Royal Family over the decades, with Queen Elizabeth II having celebrated her 86th birthday by watching from the Royal Box at the course.

The biggest race to take place at Newbury every year is the Lockinge Stakes, although other prominent races include the Hennessy Gold Cup and Challow Novices’ Hurdle.

Newbury Hosts Lots of Flat Race Meetings

Newbury Racecouse is probably more synonymous with Flat racing than National Hunt racing, with the Lockinge Stakes taking place in May and it’s a Group 1 encounter over two miles which has an overall purse of £350,000 and therefore attracts some star horses.

In recent years, a series of Godolphin horses have claimed victory in the Lockinge which is open to any horse that is at least four-years-old. Similarly, Sir Michael Stoute has recorded eight wins as a trainer, while Lester Piggott is the most successful jockey with six wins.

The Flat season at Newbury begins as early as April when the course hosts the Fred Darling Stakes, John Porter Stakes and Greenham Stakes. These are all popular Group 3 betting races where punters try to pick out the winners or a value each-way bet.

May has the Lockinge Stakes as the centrepiece although there are several other notable races at Newbury including the Fillies’ Trial Stakes, Carnarvon Stakes and Aston Park Stakes. These are all Conditions races over various distances.

The Summer of Racing Continues at Newbury

In June, many racing fans enjoy betting on the Abingdon Stakes, while the following month brings the Weatherbys Super Sprint along with the Hackwood Stakes. There is the option to place bets or access live online streaming of these races with bookmakers such as bet365.

There is even more summer racing at Newbury thanks to an August meeting which includes St Hugh’s Stakes, Geoffrey Freer Stakes, Hungerford Stakes and Denford Stakes.

The Flat season is a long one at Newbury, with the Mill Reef Stakes the Group 2 encounter in September, while there is also an October meeting before the National Hunt season takes over.

National Hunt Meetings Run Between November and March

National Hunt racing fans can enjoy betting at Newbury from November onwards, with the Gerry Heilden Hurdle, John Francome Novices’ Chase and Berkshire Novices’ Chase all taking place.

The Long Distance Hurdle and Ladbrokes Trophy also form part of the November National Hunt meeting at Newbury, with the same racecourse also hosting a December meeting which features races such as the Challow Novices’ Hurdle.

Horse racing returns to Newbury racecourse in February with a prestigious meeting that includes the Game Spirit Chase, Betfair Hurdle, Denman Chase and Winter Bumper.

The Game Spirit Chase and Denman Chase are both Group 2 races and popular betting encounters, with the Greatwood Gold Cup occurring in March and that’s just before the Cheltenham Festival kicks off.

Punters can therefore enjoy punting on Newbury horse racing all the way through the year along with accessing live streaming. It’s a great way of making sure you watch every race, especially if you are planning on placing a bet.
