2025 Lavazza Handicap Hurdle Betting Tips
Alexei finished second on a seasonal debut and he’s among the favourites for the Lavazza Handicap Hurdle. Joe Tizzard trains a horse who was second in a field of nine at Chepstow, with that coming in the Welsh Champion Hurdle. There wasn’t great form as a four-year-old although the horse did achieve a double success at Taunton at the end of 2024.
Washington was a winner last time out. Harry Derham is a successful trainer and he could see his nine-year-old perform well at Ascot. The horse was able to score at Chepstow in a previous showing, with that coming in a two mile handicap hurdle. Back in April, the horse was able to perform strongly in a handicap hurdle at Aintree.
Moveit Like Minnie was second in a recent encounter and the eight-year-old now lines up for the Twiston-Davies’. There’s everything to like about a weight allowance and that could mean a closer finish to the one that saw the horse finish three lengths behind Washington last time out. That came after a promising run at Hereford racecourse back in April.
Ooh Betty is next in the betting and the seven-year-old has the chance to go well for Ben Clarke, with the latest effort coming at Haydock Park in May. That came after finishing third out of twelve runners at Ayr in April. Clap Of Thunder is another promising contender who could go well for the Twiston-Davies’ and has scope as a five-year-old.

Steel Ally produced a solid performance on his seasonal debut and the same horse heads the betting market for the Lavazza Handicap Hurdle on Saturday. The Sam Thomas-trained runner was able to win last season along with registering a runner-up and a third-placed spot. He looks like the most solid each-way proposition out of the entire field.
Fiercely Proud was also twice a winner last season and the five-year-old is trained by Ben Pauling. The latest effort was a seventh-placed finish out of twenty runners at Sandown and this came after finishing second out of a field of six at Kempton Park. However, there were previously back to back victories last season.
Secret Squirrel was twice a winner last season and the five-year-old boasts solid credentials, with the Hughie Morrison-trained charge likely to be suited to the trip of one mile, seven and a half furlongs. David Bass is on board and the horse is carrying less weight than the first two runners in the betting.
Fire Flyer was unconvincing in his previous two encounters, although Paul Nicholls trains a six-year-old who is also carrying 11-3 and could be a backable each-way price. That’s particularly if you are able to get extra places, with the best horse racing betting sites likely to stretch down to five or even six places for this race.
