2025 Chester Stakes Betting Odds at Chester racecourse

Saturday, 30 August 2025

There’s a nine-year-old who could take all the beating in the Virgin Bet Chester Stakes, with Hamish having won last time out and will now go into this race at the Roodee as favourite. William Haggas will hope that his horse’s experience can stand him in good stead, with Taipan a younger adversary who was able to succeed in the previous encounter.

Tabletalk has yet to win this season although there has been back-to-back runner up spots before a sixth and a third last time out. Sam Hawkens is the interesting one considering that there have been three successive triumphs. Alsakib has consecutive fourth places this season and Allonsy could be good each-way value.

Hamish is the oldest horse in the Chester Stakes and he’s also the favourite. The nine-year-old was able to score at Goodwood at the beginning of June and hasn’t run since. That success came as the even money favourite in the Tapster Stakes when winning by a neck. That came after a success last November when the runner was able to score at The Curragh.

On that occasion, the 10/11 favourite was able to oblige by five lengths over one mile and four furlongs. There was previously a runner-up spot secured at Longchamp in the Prix du Conseil de Paris and this horse very much looks the one to beat. However, Taipan can’t be easily discounted and the seven-year-old was victorious last time out.

Jessie Harrington’s charge was able to score at Galway at the beginning of August, with the 5/2 favourite able to score by an impressive five lengths. That came after finishing well down the order at the Curragh, with the 20/1 shot struggling to make an impression after previously delivering the goods at Gowran Park.

Sam Hawkens is the most interesting runner in the field. The horse was able to oblige as the 4/1 favourite at Goodwood at the beginning of August, with that coming after a mid-June success at Hamilton. There was also a victory at Newcastle on the all-weather at Newcastle, with the horse now bidding for a four-timer.
