2024 Dubai Golden Shaheen Betting Odds at Meydan racecourse

Saturday, 30 March 2024

The Golden Shaheen has been in force since 1996 and it’s a big money race at Meydan where the runners and riders compete over six furlongs. There’s a purse of $2 million for a race which forms part of the Global Sprint Challenge, with Sibelius having been the impressive winner of the race last year.

However, we rarely see a dual winner of this race, with Mind Your Biscuits having achieved this honour in 2017 and 2018. Caller One has also been able to secure back to back successes in 2001 and 2002, although Sibelius will go up against the likes of Nakatomi, Mouheeb and Bold Journey this time around.

2024 Golden Shaheen Tips

Sibelius is the American raider who was able to clinch a victory in last year’s Golden Shaheen, with the horse sent off at odds of 8/1 before landing a success by a neck. The horse performed well when chasing the leaders and fend off favourite Switzerland on that occasion, with the horse back at Meydan to defend his crown.

Since then, the horse was somewhat under par when finishing fourth out of five runners at Churchill Downs, with the runner’s most recent outing being a success at Gulfstream Park when the horse won the Mr Prospector Stakes over seven furlongs on fast ground. Sent off as the 19/10 favourite, there was a four length success on that occasion.

Nakatomi is another American raider who could be prominent in the betting for this encounter. The runner was last seen performing at Santa Anita where there was a solid third-placed finish in a field of eight. This came after a solid performance at Keeneland and there has previously been a win at Saratoga.

Mouheeb is the other horse that catches the eye and the Michael Costa-trained charge could be the one to beat. It was an eye-catching performance when the horse was able to beat eight other rivals when triumphing at Meydan at the end of January, with the horse knowing this track well and we could see him deliver.

2023 Dubai Golden Shaheen Tips

We are really excited for what promises to be an entertaining tussle in the Dubai Golden Shaheen, with this being a six furlong dash and there are three horses all jostling for position at the top of the betting market. Gunite is the horse that could be the one to beat, with the runner finishing second on his last outing when runner-up to Elite Power at Riyadh.

The horse was visually impressive despite losing out in the Riyadh Dirt Sprint, with over three lengths splitting the front two, with trainer Steven Asmussen hoping that his charge go one better when it comes to the big occasion, with the horse previously claiming a victory in the King Cotton Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

Switzerland was the winner of this race twelve months ago and there could be another victory in the Dubai Golden Shaheen considering that there have been consecutive wins coming into this encounter. The Seemar-trained charge was able to secure a victory in the Dubawi Stakes over six furlongs in fast conditions and obliging at 11/4.

However, a shout needs to be given for Lemon Pop, with the Godolphin horse coming over from Japan with fairly solid credentials. All the horse’s form has come at Tokyo Racecourse, with the runner winning the February Stakes on 19 February and that Grade One success means that the racing betting sites are affording the runner plenty of respect.
