BetVictor Handicap Results at Newbury — 17 August 2024

Saturday, 17 August 2024

There are plenty of horses trading at single figure betting odds for this BetVictor-sponsored handicap, with The Big Board potentially the one to beat despite failing to land a victory this season. The four-year-old was second last time out, with Cover Point trading at a similar price and this runner was able to secure a victory in a previous race.

Kuwait City has plenty to prove after drawing blanks so far this term, with Mc Loven potentially better value and the three-year-old was successful in a recent encounter, while Woolhampton has also been on the board this season. Fantasy Master and Glamorous Breeze could also make an impression at backable each-way prices.

The Big Board finished runner-up in his previous outing and could be set to go one better when it comes to Saturday’s Newbury encounter. The four-year-old should go well over five furlongs, with the runner having finished second out of nine runners at Ascot, with the horse narrowly losing by a short head on good to firm ground.

Cover Point was victorious last time out, with the three-year-old able to triumph at Musselburgh at the beginning of August. The horse was able to edge out the odds-on favourite in this race, with this coming after a midfield finish at Newmarket in July. There was a similar sort of outcome at Doncaster a few weeks previously.

Kuwait City is trained by John Butler, with the four-year-old having finished fourteenth out of twenty-one runners at York towards the end of July. Indeed, the horse has been largely underwhelming since winning at Yarmouth, with disappointing showings at Ascot although the bookies think that this charge could be well handicapped.

Mc Loven is trained by Simon Dow and the three-year-old has some solid each-way claims based on previous displays, with the last outing being a fourth-placed finish out of sixteen runners at Goodwood Racecourse. This came after a soft ground success at Lingfield Park, with Woolhampton and Fantasy Master also trading at single figure odds.
