Brigadier Gerard Stakes 2027 Betting Odds

Thursday 27 May 2027 · Sandown Park · By Matthew Glazier · Last updated

Six horses go to post in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes, with this being a Group 3 encounter where the front two dominate the betting market. Ombudsman runs for John & Thady Gosden and has been installed as the warm favourite. A recent win suggests he could be the horse to beat, although Gethin was impressive on the all-weather and we're interested to see how he runs.

This is an Owen Burrows-trained horse who has been respected by the layers, with Almeric returning to the track to finish third last time out. Wimbledon Hawkeye and Arabian Light are other contenders with an outside chance, although Bedouin Prince is the rank outsider and might struggle to live with the pace.

2026 Brigadier Gerard Stakes Betting Tips

Gethin is open to improvement and looks a backable price to win the Brigadier Gerard Stakes. The horse opened his career with victories at Nottingham and Newbury before heading to Saint-Cloud and finishing runner-up in a competitive race. Only a head stopped him winning the Prix Turenne before another second-placed effort in a listed encounter at Newmarket.

Then came a win as the 7/4 favourite at Kempton in early April. It wasn't so much the victory in the Magnolia Stakes as the emphatic margin of victory by nearly four lengths. The horse's age of four could mean further improvement is going to come and perhaps this will see the colours of Ombudsman lowered as a result.

The latter is carrying seven pounds more in the saddle and that could make all the difference. The Gosden-trained charge was able to score at Meydan at the end of March, although he did have his colours lowered on British Champions Day by Calandagan. Previously to this, there was a win at York after a runner-up spot at Sandown.

Almeric will do well to beat the front two in the market, although there was a solid effort on a seasonal debut. The Andrew Balding-trained runner was third in the Gordon Richards Stakes as favourite, with that coming after a midfield effort in the Champion Stakes at Ascot. Wimbledon Hawkeye might also be found wanting in the latter stages.
