Friday 19 June 2026 · Ascot · By Matthew Glazier · Last updated

There's a final chance to back a winner on Day Four of Royal Ascot, with the Palace of Holyroodhouse being a five furlong dash down the straight. As always, the betting market is wide open and Gold Digger has been installed as the market leader. Westport claimed an all-weather success before claiming successive wins for George Boughey and should also go well.

Bacio is a lesser-known runner who comes over from the US to run for trainer Wesley Ward, with Dickensian having lots of experience. Kevin Ryan saw his horse get a victory on a seasonal debut and the charge has regularly been seen hitting the frame. Sandal's Song and Stargazed were both second last time out along with Calico Blue.

2026 Palace of Holyroodhouse Betting Tips

Westport dotted up at Hamilton last time out, with the runner obliging over five furlongs for George Boughey. It came as no surprise that the horse was victorious considering that the runner was a 1/18 shot, with that four length triumph coming after an April win at Leicester. The 7/2 shot was able to register a win in a novice stakes race over six furlongs.

The horse's career started with a victory as the 6/4 favourite at Lingfield on the all-weather. That win was enjoyed back in March, with Gold Digger having claimed a win for Richard Spencer on a seasonal debut. Saffie Osborne is on board a horse who was able to oblige at Windsor at the beginning of June after finishing sixth in the Albany Stakes at the 2025 Royal Ascot meeting.

Bacio is an American raider who was able to score at Churchill Downs when registering a two-length win over five furlongs in April. That came after a success at the beginning of November. The horse was the 9/10 favourite at Del Mar where the runner was able to make all, with Bacio having finished second as the 12/5 favourite in a listed race at Santa Anita.

Dickensian is the top weight horse in the race and it will be interesting to see whether the charge can contend with the other runners. Perhaps the handicapper has been kind and the mid-May win at York was eye-catching. The 12/1 shot was able to oblige in the Westow Stakes, with that coming after a bright effort at Doncaster in September.
