2025 Doonside Cup Stakes Betting Odds at Ayr racecourse

Saturday, 20 September 2025

We’ve got a maximum of fourteen runners lining up in the Doonside Cup Stakes, with the competitors battling it out over one mile and two furlongs. There are a couple of horses hovering around the 5/1 mark, with Almeric and Damysus hard to separate in the eyes of the layers. Both have been successful in their most recent outing.

King Of Cities was also in the winners’ enclosure last time out, with Richard Hannon’s horse potentially providing some each-way value. Certain Lad is a nine-year-old who has a wealth of experience at various racetracks, with Ancient Wisdom and Enfjaar having solid credentials and it will be interesting to see how the market shapes up.

There’s going to be a competitive tussle at Ayr in the Ladbrokes 'Big Football Bet Builder Boosts' Doonside Cup Stakes on Saturday. The race is set to go off at 1.50pm and it’s the second race on the card at this Scottish track. Andrew Balding trains Almeric and there was plenty to like about a victory for the horse at Newmarket back in April.

On that occasion, the runner was able to oblige in the Feilden Stakes, with that coming by a single length and that came after a Maiden Stakes triumph at York back in October. However, Damysus is a credible runner who was able to triumph in a previous encounter. The John & Thady Gosden-trained charge produced an excellent effort to win at Deauville.

That was a two-length success in mid-August, with that coming over one mile and two furlongs in the Aga Khan Studs Prix Nureyev. Previously to this, the horse was really underwhelming in the Betfred Derby, although the horse had been strong in the Dubai Dante Stakes at York over one mile, two and a half furlongs.

King Of Cities was last seen landing a victory when scoring at York towards the end of August. The 11/1 chance was able to deliver the goods in the Group 3 Strensall Stakes, with the runner narrowly edging out outsider Boiling Point when the horses competed over a mile and a furlong. That came after a disappointing showing at Goodwood where the runner was only third in a field of four.

Botanical was second in his last outing and the George Boughey-trained runner has been respected by the market when it comes to the Doonside Cup Stakes, with the four-year-old having won a sixteen-runner race at York before falling flat at Royal Ascot. However, the runner returned with a bang to finish second out of twenty runners at York.

Enfjaar started the season with consecutive victories, with the four-year-old trained by Roger Varian and the first of these wins came on the all-weather at Chelmsford before a superb victory at York when edging Botanical into second place. There was then a second-placed finish at Goodwood in the Chesterfield Cup Handicap.

Persica has been a winner on two occasions this season, with the three-year-old having one of the highest ratings in the field. Richard Hannon saddles a horse that finished third at Windsor last time out, with this coming after a victory at Sandown Park in early July. There was also a stunning win at Epsom over one mile and two furlongs.

Phantom Flight has been in the first three places on three occasions this term, with George Scott training a five-year-old who has more experience than several of the other counterparts, with a victory coming at Newbury and he was also strong when finishing second out of nine runners at York.
