2023 Future Champion Novices' Chase Tips
Balco Coastal was a 16/1 shot for the Turners’ Novices Chase, although the seven-year-old found life tough at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival, with the horse struggling to get the two mile and four furlong trip. The horse weakened before the final two fences although the runner can’t be discounted in a race such as this, with the horse finishing second to Gerri Colombe in the Virgin Bet Scilly Isles Novices' Chase.
There was also a handicap chase victory at Kempton Park, with Nico de Boinville riding a horse who might have Notlongtillmay having run a much better race in the same heat at the Cheltenham Festival, with the horse sent off at a massive 40/1 in the Turners’ Novices Chase before running well and beating favourite Mighty Potter.
McFabulous was enjoying some decent form before the nine-year-old was pulled up in a three-runner race at Newbury Racecourse, with the horse finishing second in the Ladbrokes Kauto Star Novices' Chase when running home fifteen lengths behind Thyme Hill. This was a reversal of the finishing order at Newbury Racecourse in November where the horses battled it out in the Coral John Francome Novices' Chase.
Thunder Rock has fallen short in his previous three outings although Olly Murphy saddles a runner who ran a reasonable race in the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase, with 22/1 shot finishing well behind quality performers such as The Real Whacker and Gerri Colombe. That form might end up standing the horse up in good stead.
