2025 Persian War Novices Hurdle Betting Odds at Chepstow racecourse

Friday, 10 October 2025

The fourth race on the card at Chepstow Racecourse on Friday is the Persian War Novices' Hurdle. Queensbury Boy could be the class act in the field and the horse has solid credentials after finishing fifth in a high-grade encounter last time out. Sticktotheplan can operate well and looks like a backable each-way price to land a success.

Jack Hyde was successful on his seasonal debut and was victorious for trainer Fergal O’Brien. He’s one of the older adversaries in the race, with Moneygarrow having a first race of the season. Krak is another horse making a bow after a lengthy lay-off, with Kainsbourg having won twice this season for trainer Gordon Elliott.

Queensbury Boy was fifth in a recent showing although that effort was in a competitive encounter at Punchestown in early May. There could be more to come from a horse who ran well in the Champion Novice Hurdle after previously faring well at Newbury in March. It was a facile victory after landing the spoils at Doncaster previously to this.

Sticktotheplan is second favourite for the Chepstow encounter, with Olly Murphy’s five-year-old able to land a victory at Listowel and Galway. The former success came at the end of May and there was then a credible run at Punchestown. The horse was then able to return to the winners’ enclosure and there’s been money for the runner here.

Jack Hyde was a winner last time out when scoring at Newton Abbot Racecourse last month. It was all too predictable to see the horse secure the spoils at a short price, with that coming after finishing fourth at Aintree. In a field of seventeen runners, the horse ran well in a handicap hurdle over two miles. There was previously a double success at Southwell.

Moneygarrow runs for Dan Skelton, with the trainer saddling a five-year-old who might be somewhat rusty after a long lay-off. There were successes at Borris House and Chepstow last time out, with that followed up by a strong festive performance at Ascot. More latterly, a second place at Kempton suggests that a decent effort could happen here.

There are fifteen runners lining up for the Unibet Persian War Novices' Hurdle and punters are keen to go for Teeshan, with the horse having been impressive last season. Paul Nicholls trains a runner who began his career with a triumph in Ireland before obliging at Exeter, although the horse then ran in the Champion Bumper and finished well down the order.

Perhaps a better-priced alternative could be Brechin Castle, with the six-year-old having last been seen running at Ascot back in December. This was in a Flat race where the favourite missed out to Let It Rain over three furlongs, with this coming after a success at Cheltenham where the horse was able to score nearly a year ago.

Intense Approach was able to record back-to-back successes last time out, with John C McConnell saddling a horse who could be open to further improvement this season. In September, there was a success at Kelso in the middle of September which came after a massive win as favourite at Downpatrick.

Listentoyourheart was successful for Dan Skelton recently and the five-year-old has the benefit of carrying less weight than some of the favourites. There was a success that came at Market Rasen, although a more telling piece of form was at Aintree in a National Hunt Flat race where the horse was able to finish in fifth place.

2023 Persian War Novices' Hurdle Tips

There are a number of interesting runners when it comes to the Persian War Novices' Hurdle, with Way Out among them. The Syd Hosie-trained runner has landed three consecutive wins coming into this encounter, with the latest of these coming at Newton Abbot last month when obliging by ten lengths.

Back in May, there were wins at Fakenham and Warwick, so this horse definitely fits the profile of a potential winner. However, it’s Captain Teague who is an interesting runner and comes into the race after previously performing well on the National Hunt circuit. Sent off as a 40/1 rag in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival, a third placed finish was landed.

Therefore, don’t be surprised if we see a star performance from the Paul Nicholls-trained runner, with the horse having scored at Plumpton before that Cheltenham performance in March. Rock House is another charge that has been respected by the layers and it’s little surprise when you consider that thirteen-length win at Worcester last time out.

Resplendent Grey has not run since April although a victory came at Perth on that particular occasion and that came after a success at Wetherby earlier that month. The win in the BetVictor Kinnoull Novices’ Hurdle was a particularly smart one, with a victory achieved by nearly five lengths and that came after a Maiden Hurdle win.
