2024 Diomed Stakes Betting Odds at Epsom Downs racecourse

Saturday, 01 June 2024

The betting market looks wide open for the Betfred Diomed Stakes, with the runners and riders competing over one mile, half a furlong. Maljoom is the front runner when it comes to the betting market for this Epsom showdown, with the horse having finished fifth last time out, although there are lots of lively contenders.

Embesto was fifth last time out and the four-year-old has genuine each-way claims, with Highland Avenue looking to improve on a seventh and sixth-placed finish this season. Regal Reality could be along the right lines, with Sir Michael Stoute bidding for success with this nine-year-old. Witch Hunter is also available at similar odds.

2024 Betfred Diomed Stakes Tips

Maljoom has rock solid credentials when it comes to the Betfred Diomed Stakes, with the five-year-old trained by William Haggas and the horse was third out of five runners at Ascot last time out. In the Paradise Stakes, the 2/1 favourite wasn’t able to deliver the goods, although the runner was able to perform well in the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Joel Stakes.

Embesto is a four-year-old that goes for Roger Varian, with the horse last seen performing well at Newmarket in April. In the bet365 Earl of Sefton Stakes, the runner weakened in the final furlong although there was a bright effort in the Qatar Prix Daniel Wildenstein at Longchamp over one mile on good to soft ground.

Highland Avenue is a six-year-old whose last three performances took place at Meydan. Sent off at odds of 33/1 in the Group 2 Singspiel Stakes, the horse outperformed his odds when finishing sixth out of fourteen runners and that came after a solid showing in the Jebel Hatta, with a victory in the Earthlight Darley Stakes coming at Newmarket in October.

Regal Reality is an older runner, with the nine-year-old having finished fourth and third in his past two outings. At Chester in the Huxley Stakes, the horse was only beaten by Passenger and Israr. This came after finishing a credible fourth in the bet365 Earl of Sefton Stakes over one mile and one furlong.

2023 Diomed Stakes Betting Tips

The majority of the field lining up for the 2023 Diomed Stakes have a lively chance of securing a victory, with Highland Avenue a talented five-year-old who has performed well in his career to date. Running in the Gordon Richards Stakes on 7 May, the runner finished third out of five runners and this was a Group 3 contest was competitive.

It’s unlikely that Highland Avenue will find a competitor as strong as the front two in that race, with Adayar and Anmaat winner and runner-up on that occasion, with the Charlie Appleby-trained charge having come back after a break that extended to more than a year, with two runs at Meydan proving to be previously underwhelming.

Al Mubhir is a four-year-old who will be ridden by Tom Marquand and there was a solid performance at Haydock last time out. Finishing third out of six runners, the horse performed reasonably well in the Pertemps Network Spring Trophy Stakes at Haydock Park, with the horse having previously won a handicap race at Leicester.

Reach For The Moon proved to be underwhelming at Newmarket in the Earl of Sefton Stakes, while there was also a below-par effort at Saint-Cloud. However, there was a strong showing at Ascot in the Hampton Court Stakes, with the King-owned horse potentially coming back into form at the right time of the flat season.
