2026 Frodon Novices Limited Handicap Chase Betting Odds at Musselburgh racecourse

Sunday, 01 February 2026

It's hard to identify the winner of the Frodon Novices' Limited Handicap Chase, especially as there are six runners who are operating at single figure betting odds for the encounter at Musselburgh Racecourse on Sunday. This takes place over two miles, four and a half furlongs, with Dedicated Hero regarded as the strongest contender.

Go West has landed a place in the frame on three occasions this season, with Queens Gamble having finished third on a seasonal debut. Intense Approach won on a debut this season and Norn Iron has been an impressive performer this season. Elysian Knight was pulled up on his debut but might offer more this term.

Dedicated Hero has yet to oblige with a victory this season. However, that hasn't stopped the Sandy Thomson-trained runner being installed as favourite for the Frodon Novices' Limited Handicap Chase. The seven-year-old was last seen finishing second at Ayr in a field of five runners, with the 7/1 poke running well in a Novices' Chase.

That made up for an underwhelming performance when finishing last at Aintree on Boxing Day, with the previous encounter being at Cheltenham where the 22/1 shot did well in the Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle. Go West is next in the market, with Paul Nicholls saddling an eight-year-old who won first time out this season.

The horse was able to oblige at Warwick in early November, with that coming before a second-placed effort at Doncaster in a field of five runners. The latest showing at Kempton saw the runner a long way off the pace. Perhaps Queens Gamble is a better alternative and Harry Derham's horse might come on from finishing third on a seasonal debut.

The horse was somewhat out of her depth in the Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival when running in esteemed company. The 66/1 chance was never going to be much of a match for the likes of Lossiemouth, with Intense Approach having won at Galway in early August. The 13/2 shot was able to score over two miles, six and a half furlongs.

2024 Frodon Novices' Limited Handicap Chase Tips

Giovinco has only won one of his four outings this season although that hasn’t stopped the bookmakers from installing this horse as favourite to win the Frodon Novices' Limited Handicap Chase. The seven-year-old was pulled up at Kempton Park on Boxing Day, although there had previously been a handicap chase win at Aintree Racecourse in November.

Monmiral runs for trainer Paul Nicholls and this horse should be capable of a decent showing, with the runner having finished seventh in a handicap chase at Cheltenham on 16 December. Much depends on whether this charge will benefit from wind surgery, having previously been impressive as a juvenile.

General Officer hasn’t been out of the first two in four outings this season, with the seven-year-old lining up for Donald McCain and this could be the best each-way bet of the race. We saw a second-placed finish behind Tahmuras at Aintree on Boxing Day, with this coming after a fifteen-length triumph at Doncaster at the beginning of December.

Like Giovinco, Marble Sands was pulled up and that came after finishing fourth out of six runners in a novices’ chase at Newbury, with a question mark over the horse’s stamina. Jackpot de Choisel could be a better option and it’s encouraging to have seen the runner fend off five opponents to claim a slender victory at Musselburgh just a few weeks ago.
