2025 World Trophy Stakes Betting Odds at Newbury racecourse

Saturday, 20 September 2025

There’s an entertaining Group 3 encounter in store when the runners and riders line up in the World Trophy Stakes race on Saturday 20 September. This is a five furlong dash where the betting market looks wide open for the Newbury encounter, with Montassib potentially the runner set to go off as favourite. The seven-year-old returns after nearly a year away from the track.

Rumstar has won this season and is also one of the favourites, with Jonathan Portman hoping that the five-year-old can continue to be progressive. There’s then a bigger jump in the prices to Rage of Bamby and there could be a smart showing from a horse who has been regularly hitting the frame. Two Stars has already racked up a couple of smart wins this term.

Montassib returns for a seasonal debut on Saturday, with William Haggas saddling a seven-year-old who produced a number of smart finishes last term. The latest effort was back in October when the William Haggas-trained charge was able to finish fifth in the British Champion Sprint Stakes. This came after a surprise Sprint Stakes success at Haydock when obliging at odds of 25/1.

Rumstar produced a solid enough performance when scoring fifth place out of seventeen runners when competing favourably in the Nunthorpe Stakes. That came after a fifth-placed finish at the Curragh when being sent off as the 9/4 favourite in the Barberstown Castle Sapphire Stakes, with improvement needed to be in the winners’ enclosure here.

However, there was a victory in the Coral Charge at Sandown Park at the beginning of July, with Rage Of Bamby having been a victor this season when landing the spoils in the Hackwood Stakes at Newbury. It was a shock 33/1 victory on that occasion, with the horse then achieving fourth place when being sent off at 11/1 when running in the Hungerford Stakes.

The latest effort from Rage of Bamby involved a brilliant fourth-placed effort when hitting the frame at bumper odds of 80/1. Two Stars was a winner at the Curragh back in March, with the favourite scoring over five furlongs. There was then a success at Naas, with the horse last seen finishing eighth in the Flying Five Stakes.

Annaf is almost certain to go off as the favourite to win the World Trophy Stakes, with the five-year-old having been disappointing at Haydock last time out. Previously to that recent run, the horse had run well in Riyadh to claim the spoils in a turf sprint over seven furlongs, while that came after a solid performance at Lingfield in a listed race.

Adaay In Devon has one win from his six outings this season, with Rod Millman training a runner who claimed a victory at Sandown in the middle of June. The horse has been regularly hitting the frame this season, recording a second-placed finish at York after his win before another runner-up spot at Pontefract in August.

Albasheer was fourth in the Betfred Portland at Doncaster and it’s now been four races since landing a victory, although there was a win at Ascot back in July when the horse saw off twelve other runners. Archie Watson’s six-year-old has hit the frame in the past two encounters and looks like a reasonable each-way selection.

No Half Measures has won two of his previous three races, with a victory coming in a five-furlong handicap encounter at Newmarket over five furlongs. Then came a win at Deauville in the Prix Moonlight Cloud, with Shamrock Glitter seen off by a length in this six furlong encounter before a sixth-placed finish last time out.

The big question is how Sense Of Duty will perform after such a long lay-off. Since winning on the all-weather at Newcastle Racecourse on 25 June 2022, the four-year-old has been away from the track and now returns to make a seasonal debut. Looking at previous form, the runner was hot property and won the Chipchase Stakes on that last outing.

However, the fact that the horse has been away from the track for such a long time raises a red flag and perhaps there is better each-way value in the race. Annaf was able to see off a big field at the St Leger meeting when obliging in the Betfred Portland, with the four-year-old able to claim a victory by a short head.

Raasel also ran at the Doncaster St Leger Festival and managed to finish second out of four runners in the Scarborough Stakes, with the horse sent off at even money on that occasion before missing out to Rogue Lightning. However, that was preceded by a handicap victory at Haydock Park over five furlongs on good ground.

Emaraaty Ana is an older horse that has solid credentials and there are likely to be horse racing price boosts available for this runner. Kevin Ryan saddles a runner who was third at York Racecourse last time out, with the horse being sent off as the 2/1 favourite, although the horse finished second in the Hopeful Stakes at Newmarket at the end of August.
