2023 Heritage Handicap Betting Odds at Newmarket racecourse

Friday, 14 July 2023

We’re excited to see which horse comes out on top over one mile and two furlongs for the Heritage Handicap at Newmarket Racecourse. This is the first of seven races on Friday’s card, with the encounter featuring as many as twenty runners on good to firm ground. Charlie Appleby not only has Tagabawa but also Local Dynasty looking to make an impression.

The horses will be jostling for position and it could come down to race tactics over a longer distance, with Lion Of War having been regularly hitting the frame for trainer Charlie Johnston this season. Amleto is a runner who has one win from a solitary run this term and William Haggas might be able to engineer another victory here.

2023 Heritage Handicap Tips

It looks hard to pick a winner when it comes to the bet365 Heritage Handicap, with the bookmakers happy to go 8/1 for the field. Lion Of War has been afforded plenty of respect after some encouraging performances, although there are a spate of horses trading at similar odds and that includes Tagabawa who has a win on the board this season.

Lion Of War was last seen finishing second in the Golden Gates Stakes at Royal Ascot when the 9/2 co-favourite beat every other horse aside from Burdett Road. There was previously a win in the Edinburgh Handicap at Musselburgh where the 15/2 shot was able to secure a victory by over a length, although Tagabawa is also an interesting pick.

The horse ran in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot and finished a credible sixth place, with this coming after a victory on the all-weather at Kempton. Amleto also has to be respected based on a win at Chester in his last outing, with the 7/2 shot claiming a victory over one mile, two and a half furlongs in a maiden race.

Local Dynasty was third in the same race as Lion Of War at Royal Ascot and has three lengths to find on his adversary in this encounter, with the horse previously landing the same position in the Boodles Dee Stakes. The fact that the runner has recorded wins at Sandown and Pontefract means that chances have to be respected.
