2023 Oh So Sharp Stakes Betting Odds at Newmarket racecourse

Friday, 13 October 2023

This is an exciting Group 3 contest for fillies, with Dance Sequence having been lightly raced although the layers liked what they saw from the charge last time out. The two-year-old could go off favourite and has eight other runners to beat, with William Buick on board a runner who could be battling it out with Skellet over seven furlongs.

There are other horses trading at single figures including Chic Colombine and there has been four successive wins for the George Boughey-trained charge who has the highest official rating in the race. Star Music was also successful in her last outing and could be a viable each-way selection, with Tropical Island having recorded two wins of her own this season.

Dance Sequence was impressive in her first and only outing of the season, although it remains to be seen whether she can follow this up in the Oh So Sharp Stakes. The two-year-old beat five other runners at Newmarket at the beginning of July when winning a Maiden Fillies’ Stakes although this is altogether a different assignment against tougher opponents.

They include Skellet who is trained by Ralph Beckett and there was a recent win at Salisbury where eight other runners were beaten over seven furlongs. This came after the horse was beaten into fourth in her debut Maiden Stakes at Sandown Park, despite being the 2/1 favourite. After a month away from the track, the horse should be nicely primed here.

Chic Colombine has scored victories in four successive races, the latest of which came at Goodwood Racecourse. That was in a two-year-old fillies’ series final where the horse was able to get up over seven furlongs on soft ground. That came after a Nursery Handicap win at Doncaster Racecourse over six and a half furlongs.

Star Music was the winner of a most recent encounter when obliging as the 11/8 favourite over seven furlongs on the all-weather at Kempton Park. This came after a solid third placed finish in the Qipco British Champions Series Maiden Fillies' Stakes, with the Richard Hughes-trained runner likely to have a say in this contest and the same applies to Tropical Island.
