Wood Ditton Stakes Results at Newmarket — 16 April 2026

Thursday, 16 April 2026

There are probably four horses in the field of ten who can win the Betway Wood Ditton Maiden Stakes, with Crown Knott regarded as the strongest contender. None of these three-year-olds have lined up in a professional race before, although the Charlie Appleby-trained charge is regarded as the most likely winner due to stable connections.

John & Thady Gosden may end up saddling the winner considering that they have two strong contenders against the field. Portcullis runs in the royal colours and is the horse being ridden by Ryan Moore, with Santushti from the same stable and the pair are trading at a similar price. North Beach has the potential to go well for trainer Andrew Balding.

2026 Betway Wood Ditton Maiden Stakes Betting Tips

There's no real form to read when it comes to the Betway Wood Ditton Maiden Stakes, although Crown Knott could be the horse to beat according to the latest odds. Charlie Appleby trains a runner whose sire is Lope De Vega and the dam is Lover's Knot. The Godolphin-bred charge is likely to be competitive and that is reflected in the prices.

Portcullis is the royal contender and perhaps the best chance for John & Thady Gosden. Having a sire in the form of Frankel is always a positive sign and Castle Lady is the dam on this occasion. The King's horse should be expected to put up a stern challenge and it's telling that Ryan Moore has elected to take the ride for this runner.

Santushti is the stable mate of the above and another one to treat with consideration. It's another Gosden-trained runner who will be ridden by Oisin Murphy and the horse comes from good stock. The Lady Bamford-owned horse has a sire in the form of Dubawi and the dam is Star Of Seville, with this runner trading at a backable price.

Beyond this, North Beach is probably the only other horse that can land the spoils in the Betway Wood Ditton Maiden Stakes. Andrew Balding saddles a runner who will be ridden by Rob Hornby, with New Bay being the sire of this three-year-old. The dam is Bongiorno and we're expecting the horse to be competitive over a mile.
