2023 Portman Cup Chase Tips
Frodon has been there, bought the t-shirt. The victory in the 2019 Ryanair Chase probably stands out as the standout performance of a long and illustrious career, although the eleven-year-old continues to punch above his weight. He scored third place in the King George VI Chase where the horse was trading at 18/1 and that performance really caught the eye.
Frodon’s front-running style might actually work out in this race, with the other horses in the field nowhere near as competitive as the ones that lined up against him on Boxing Day, with the horse also running well when finishing third in the Betfair Chase and the seasonal reappearance saw the Paul Nicholls-trained runner score at Wincanton.
Quick Wave was pulled up last time out and the ten-year-old will now return to the track after a failed mission at Chepstow Racecourse on 27 December. At the beginning of December, there was a victory at Sandown Park where the Venetia Williams-trained runner was a facile victor in a handicap chase.
Slipway was able to score on his last outing and Ben Pauling will feel that his eight-year-old can register a victory. There have been back to back wins at Perth and Fontwell, with the latter coming in a handicap chase where the horse was sent off at 13/2 and this was an impressive win over three miles and three furlongs.
