2024 Rising Stars Novices Chase Betting Odds at Wincanton racecourse

Saturday, 09 November 2024

The majority of the field in the Rising Stars Novices' Chase are trading at single figure betting odds, with the horses competing over two miles and four furlongs. Handstands didn’t win his previous race although that was preceded by a spate of victories and the five-year-old is certainly one for the shortlist this weekend.

Peaky Boy has delivered some impressive performances and Nicky Henderson trains a six-year-old who could well oblige with a victory here, while Resplendent Grey has back to back successes for Olly Murphy and is not without a chance. Soul Icon has also regularly been able to run into a place and Boombawn is another interesting horse.

There’s a battle for favouritism at the head of the market for the Rising Stars Novices' Chase, with Handstands having racked up a series of victories in his career. Ben Pauling trains a runner who enjoyed a succession of four different wins at Moira, Hereford, Newcastle and Huntingdon before a disappointing outcome at Cheltenham last time out.

The horse found the going too tough in the Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle at the Festival, although there’s a chance of the runner returning to winning ways here. However, Peaky Boy is a smart runner and Nicky Henderson trains a horse who has been successful at Cheltenham on consecutive occasions.

Resplendent Grey has also enjoyed successive wins and the six-year-old has solid claims for trainer Olly Murphy, with a success coming at Uttoxeter in October. He was able to beat five other runners by five and a half lengths, with a previous success coming at the Staffordshire track and this is definitely a horse for the shortlist.

Soul Icon incredibly has four successive runner-up spots, with Keiran Burke saddling a horse who was second at Market Rasen in a field of sixteen horses. This came after a runner-up appearance at Aintree and the same outcome came at Ayr. The seven-year-old could be a backable price compared to the front runners in the field.

Knappers Hill is the horse that boasts the strongest credentials when it comes to the Boodles 'Rising Stars' Novices' Chase and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the seven-year-old claim a victory in this Grade Two encounter. The Paul Nicholls-trained runner might have needed the run in a recent Novices’ Chase at Chepstow when finishing second out of four horses.

Last April, there was plenty to like about the horse’s performance in the bet365 Select Hurdle at Sandown Park, with the runner able to edge out Goshen and Theatre Glory over two miles, five and a half furlongs. Might I could be the strongest rival, with Harry Fry training a horse that finished fifth in the Prix du Cher in May.

JPR One was able to win against two other runners in a handicap chase over two miles, half a furlong on heavy ground. We can also look back on the Land And Sea Handicap at Aintree Racecourse where the same runner was able to finish fifth in a big field. There is definitely a case to be made for this charge on an each-way basis.

Captain Conby has run four times since a disappointing performance at Aintree in April, with the horse last seen finishing second to Sharjah at Tipperary. Although it was a twelve length defeat over two miles and four furlongs, there was plenty to like about a performance that came after a Beginners Chase victory at Killarney.
