This is a track most commonly known for National Hunt horse racing, with the Kingwell Hurdle being the most famous race on the Wincanton Racecourse calendar, although there are several other notable meetings.

This is a racecourse that is owned by the Jockey Club Racecourses, with the unique element being three fences very close together on the finishing straight which often leads to an exciting finish when it comes to a steeplechase.

Bet on the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton

The Kingwell Hurdle takes place every February and it’s run on a Saturday, with this meeting well-attended as racegoers start to get excited about the nearby Cheltenham Festival.

This is a Grade 2 encounter that is run over two miles, with horses aged four or older able to take part in a race which has thrown up some high-profile winners over the years.

Bula and Lanzarote were able to win the race three times in succession, with the former winning the first three Kingwell Hurdles before the latter followed suit.

In more recent times, we’ve seen horses such as Hors La Loi III win the race on two different occasions, while Rhinestone Cowboy and Inglis Drever have also claimed the spoils at Wincanton.

There are also several big races that take place at this racecourse in November, with the Badger Ales Trophy a big steeplechase that occurs on a Friday.

This is run over three miles and one furlong, with the race inaugurated in 1962 and it was won on consecutive occasions in 2017 and 2018 by Present Man who could be bidding for a third victory in 2019.

The Elite Hurdle takes place shortly after this and this is run over nearly two miles, with eight hurdles to be jumped in total. Verdana Blue was the winner of this race in 2018, while Celestial Halo won the race on two occasions.
