2025 Acomb Stakes Betting Odds at York racecourse

Wednesday, 20 August 2025

There are eight horses set to go to post in the Tattersalls Acomb Stakes and it could be all about the front two in the betting. Distant Storm was successful on his debut, with Charlie Appleby’s charge potentially the one to beat in this York encounter. However, Aidan O’Brien has a viable contender in the form of Italy who is trading at a similar price.

There’s then a big jump up to Goodwood Galaxy although it would be a surprise if any of the other runners were able to claim the spoils. Gewan runs for Andrew Balding and would need to produce a strong performance to go close here. Rochfortbridge and May Angel are other contenders worthy of consideration.

2025 Acomb Stakes Betting Tips

The Tattersalls Acomb Stakes features eight runners although it would appear as though the first two in the betting could be battling it out for the spoils. Distant Storm was able to oblige at Newmarket on his debut race. Sent off as the 5/6 favourite, the two-year-old claimed the spoils in the Maiden Stakes by a short head.

That is the only form which we have available. It was a strong enough performance over seven furlongs on good to soft ground, although Italy has two runs under his belt and that experience could prove all the difference. Aidan O’Brien saddles a runner who was sent off as favourite at Newmarket last time out but could only manage second place.

Previously to this, there was an encouraging display at Leopardstown where the 4/9 favourite was able to land a victory over seven furlongs. It should also be noted that the Newmarket performance was in the Superlative Stakes and perhaps the runner was simply a victim of the fact that the Godolphin-owned Saba Desert was able to outrun his odds.

Goodwood Galaxy is the only horse in the race with an official rating and the David Menuisier-trained charge was able to win on his debut this term. That came at Salisbury on 25 June where the 18/1 shot was able to outrun his odds. That came before a solid effort at Goodwood where the horse was able to finish fourth in the Coral Vintage Stakes.

The Lion In Winter is set to go off as favourite in the Acomb Stakes, with the horse having opened his account with a victory. It was a success by over two lengths in the Juddmonte Chaldean Irish EBF (C & G) Maiden, with the runner obliging on good ground over seven furlongs and that performance was enough to be installed as one of the favourites.

Ruling Court was also victorious in his one and only outing when claiming a victory at Sandown at the end of July, with the horse claiming a five and a half length success when being sent off as the 4/9 favourite. Charlie Appleby’s charge performed to a high level although the standard for the Acomb Stakes will be much stronger.

Wimbledon Hawkeye has had two outings this season and the latest effort was finishing in third place out of six horses in a race at Newmarket. That was in the bet365 Superlative Stakes where Ancient Truth was able to oblige as the odds-on favourite, although the horse was previously successful in the Novice Stakes over seven furlongs at Kempton.

Diablo Rojo was able to oblige with a victory when obliging for trainer Raphael E Freire in a thirteen-runner encounter at Redcar against twelve other runners. Jouncy runs for trainer Andrew Balding, with the horse able to score at Goodwood at the end of July when producing a smart performance when obliging as the 7/4 favourite.
