2025 Gimcrack Stakes Betting Odds at York racecourse

Friday, 22 August 2025

Wise Approach heads the betting market for the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes, with the two-year-old having landed two victories so far this season. The horse will go off as favourite for this six furlong encounter, with Coppull next in the betting market when it comes to this Group 2 heat. Clive Cox could taste success with this charge.

Do Or Do Not can’t be easily discounted, with Ed Walker saddling a runner who has had three consecutive runner-up outings this term. Last time out, there was a third placed finish, with Outfielder the American raider who will go for Wesley Ward. Andab also has solid claims and we’re intrigued to see how Puerto Rico might perform.

2025 Gimcrack Stakes Betting Tips

Wise Approach looks a worthy favourite when it comes to the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes. The two-year-old was able to score last time out for Charlie Appleby when achieving a victory at Newbury. The 11/10 favourite was able to oblige in the Irish Rose Bowl Stakes and this came after a second-placed finish at Ascot.

On that occasion, the horse ran really well to follow home odds-on favourite Charles Darwin by a distance of two lengths. That was a five-furlong encounter, with the horse returning to the Knavesmire after finishing fourth out of eleven horses at York. Coppull was able to land two victories this season and could be another prime contender.

Clive Cox saddles a horse who was last seen obliging at Goodwood at the end of July. That was a two-length success in the Markel Richmond Stakes, with that effort coming over six furlongs. That came after a really impressive showing in the Coventry Stakes, with Do Or Do Not having been even better when finishing second as an 80/1 chance.

Ed Walker trains a horse who finished runner-up on three consecutive occasions before landing third last time out. That was at the Glorious Goodwood meeting where there was an impressive showing in the Coral Vintage Stakes. Outfielder is an intriguing runner who has landed a victory and comes from America in the hope of a big win.

2023 Gimcrack Stakes Tips

Elite Status has been rewarding backers this season with three different wins, although the horse faces stiff competition when it comes to this encounter. The two-year-old was last successful at Deauville, with the horse winning the Prix de Cabourg and that came after a third-placed finish in the Norfolk Stakes at the 2023 Royal Ascot meeting.

Jasour has been successful on his previous two outings, with the first of these coming at Nottingham when sent off as the 8/11 in a maiden stakes race. More impressive was the performance at Newmarket where the runner outperformed odds of 16/1 to oblige in the Kingdom of Bahrain Stakes over six furlongs.

Johannes Brahms has to be respected on achievements to date and Aidan O’Brien’s horse was second in the recent Windsor Castle Stakes at Ascot over five furlongs, although it’s worth noting that the horse that won that race was Big Evs who is also set to line up in this Ebor Festival encounter.

The Michael Appleby-trained runner has since gone on to claim the spoils in the Jaeger-Lecoultre Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, meaning that the horse could be the each-way selection here. That was a tough victory over five furlongs on soft ground, with Kylian also competing in that encounter and finishing in third place.

When it comes to historic flat horse races, there are few that are older than the Gimcrack Stakes. This is a Group 2 encounter which has its heritage from 1846, with Al Basti Equiworld having been one of the most recent sponsors. There is a substantial purse that is made available to the winning connections.

You can get the best York betting odds by comparing the different bookmakers. We will have Gimcrack betting odds and horse racing price boosts that are made available for this six furlong encounter, with this being a straight dash down the Knavesmire straight in the hope of landing victory.

The 2022 Gimcrack Stakes winner was Noble Style who pleased punters who backed the Charlie Appleby-trained charge at 3/1. He beat race favourite Marshman who traded at 9/4, while Cold Case rewarded each-way backers at 18/1 and some backers were able to get Best Odds Guaranteed on the above runners.

Trainer Richard Hannon Jnr has achieved some notable success in this race, with Threat obliging in 2019 and the same handler was in the winners’ enclosure with Lusail two years later. Owen Burrows was able to produce an excellent training performance in 2020 to score with Minzaal.

If you look through the Ebor Festival racecard, then you are able to find that the Gimcrack Stakes takes pride of place on Day Three of the meeting. This forms part of the same York racecard as the Lonsdale Cup, with extra each-way places often made available with some of the best bookmakers.
