Lonsdale Cup 2026 Result

Friday 21 August 2026 · York · By Matthew Glazier · Last updated

The Weatherbys Lonsdale Cup Stakes is the second race on the Knavesmire card on Friday 21 August, with this being a long distance encounter over two miles and half a furlong. It’s a Group 2 encounter, with a maximum of seventeen runners set to line up at York Racecourse. Perhaps Caballo Del Mar can run a solid race at a backable each-way price.

It’s Trawlerman who could be the horse to beat. The runner secured back to back runner-up spots this season and that was preceded by a spate of wins. However, at the age of eight, perhaps his powers are declining. Rahiebb is also worthy of consideration, with Carmers also a single figure price and capable of running into a place.

Lonsdale Cup Stakes Betting Tips

Caballo Del Mar’s poor effort at Royal Ascot means that we can back the horse at a more backable price when it comes to the Lonsdale Cup Stakes. George Scott’s charge weakened at the end of the Ascot Gold Cup over two miles and four furlongs, with this shorter distance sure to be more to the horse’s liking. That’s especially when you consider some of the previous efforts.

There was an 18/1 win at Longchamp when the runner won the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier over nearly two miles on soft ground. It was an unexpected success and came after a fine May performance at Ascot where the runner was only narrowly beaten by a slender distance. There was also a strong effort at Meydan and we think this horse is a great value pick.

Trawlerman is an eight-year-old who has enjoyed an excellent career, including a victory in this race last season. The horse was able to land a victory by over a length and has subsequently run well including a second-placed spot in the Ascot Gold Cup. There was then an unfortunate run to finish once again behind Scandinavia in the Goodwood Cup Stakes.

Rahiebb is a four-year-old that opened the season with a victory when scoring for Roger Varian at York. The horse then struggled over a longer distance in the Ascot Gold Cup before finishing third in the Goodwood Cup. Perhaps the runner will once again be in the frame, with Carmers also a potential contender after some bright efforts.
