Damysus has run three times this term and has to stand an each-way chance in the current field, with a jump up in the odds to Pride Of Arras. Item is the youngest runner in the Sky Bet York Stakes and perhaps the best one. Andrew Balding’s three-year-old has been a force to be reckoned with, landing a victory on the all-weather last term before following that up with a success on turf. That was as the 4/6 favourite at Bath and there was more to come from the horse this current season.
The runner turned out at the Knavesmire in the middle of May when sent off as an 11/2 shot and was able to oblige by a sizeable distance. A victory of nearly three lengths was landed over one mile, two and a half furlongs. That was the Dubai Dante Stakes and there was then a solid effort in the Derby although the soft ground wasn’t to the horse’s liking.
Royal Champion is operating at a similar price, with the eight-year-old having landed two victories last season. Much will depend on how the horse copes with the extra weight although there was a notable February success at Riyadh. Then the horse took a chance at Sha Tin and ran well as a 16/1 shot. In the FWD QEII Cup, a fourth-placed finish was not to be sniffed at.
Damysus is the other horse with bold claims and returned for the season with a win. That victory came at Newmarket in the middle of April. In the Earl of Sefton Stakes, the runner obliged in a Grade 3 encounter by nearly four lengths. More recently, there was a strong effort at Royal Ascot where the horse was able to run a blinder in the Queen Anne Stakes.
