Gordon Elliott Runners at the Cheltenham Festival 2022

Gordon Elliott is regarded as something of a controversial figure when it comes to National Hunt racing. The Irishman found himself in a big storm last season when some photographs were leaked and the trainer was handed a ban which meant that his entire cast of horses were given over to Denise Foster, while several owners switched trainer to Willie Mullins or Henry de Bromhead.

However, Elliott will be back and the Cheltenham Festival 2022 betting odds suggests that he has a chance of landing the top trainer prize. The trainer of Tiger Roll claimed this award in 2017 when notching six Cheltenham winners before getting eight Cheltenham winners the following year and it will be interesting to see if he can return with a bang.

How Many Cheltenham Festival Winners Does Gordon Elliott Have?

Prior to the 2022 Cheltenham Festival, Gordon Elliott has had 32 winners at the meeting. This includes Don Cossack winning the 2016 Gold Cup when the Gigginstown horse was sent off as the 9/4 betting favourite, with Bryan Cooper giving the horse a fantastic race to see off Djakadam into second place and that remains Elliott’s only Gold Cup success.

However, Envoi Allen was the winner of the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle when landing the spoils in the 2020 renewal where the horse was sent off as the odds-on betting favourite. Samcro won the Marsh Novices’ Chase in 2020 and the horse was well-supported on the day, with Gigginstown owning a horse that was backed at Cheltenham odds of 4/1 on that occasion.

Tiger Roll a Multiple Cheltenham Festival Winner for Elliott

Tiger Roll is probably the most famous race horse that is currently in action, with the two-time Grand National winner having also landed a number of successes at the Cheltenham Festival. Cheltenham punters have enjoyed backing him at varying horse racing betting odds when it comes to the meeting and he has rarely disappointed.

Tiger Roll was available at Cheltenham betting odds of 10/1 when winning the 2014 Triumph Hurdle at the age of four, with Davy Russell giving him an excellent ride over two miles and one furlong. When it came to the JT McNamara National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Riders' Novices' Chase, Tiger Roll was backed at 16/1 for a four-mile encounter.

There was then a two-length victory in the Cross Country Chase at betting odds of 7/1 before a remarkable twenty-two length win a year later in the same race, with Tiger Roll having been sent off at Cheltenham Festival odds of 5/4 before a crushing victory which came before a Grand National victory.
