horse racing is popular in Japan and there are several different racecourses. This includes Funabashi which has been in operatation since 1950, with this Japanese race track holding a wide range of flat horse racing meetings for thoroughbred horses.

This is a racecourse which is owned by Chiba Prefecture Racing Association and there are a succession of notable horse races which take place throughout the calendar year.

Bet on the Kashiwa Kinen at Funabashi Racecourse

The Kashiwa Kinen is the Grade One race that takes place at Funabashi Racecourse, with this occurring in May every year. It occurs on a dirt track over a distance of 1,600 metres, with horses aged four or older able to compete for the prize money that is on offer.

The most successful horse in this race has been Espoir City who was able to land a consecutive hat-trick of successes between 2009 and 2012. The race has been in operation since 1978 and one recent winner was Gold Dream who was able to score a victory in 2018 and 2019.

Copana Rickey was also successful three times when obliging in 2014 before returning to the track and winning the 2016 crown before following up with a 2017 success.

Indeed, there is something known as the Golden Week from the end of April to the beginning of May where there is some high quality Japanese horse racing. This race is considered by many as the dirt mile championship of the spring.

Funabashi Racecourse Other Notable Races

There are also two Grade II races that take place at Funabashi Racecourse, with the Nippon Television Cup occurring in September, while the Diolite Kinen is a high-profile horse race that takes place in March.

The latter is over a distance of 2,400 metres, with this being a four-year-old race which has been in operation since 1956. Recent winners include Chrysolite who racked up a consecutive hat-trick of wins between 2016-17.
