There's also an eight-furlong turf course and then an inner turf track. The Travers Stakes is the flagship race at Saratoga Racecourse. It's regarded as the oldest major thoroughbred horse race in the United States. The above race is run over ten furlongs on a dirt track, with the leading three-year-olds battling it out.
This race is also known as the Midsummer Derby, with the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes the only two three-year-old showdowns which have bigger status.
