The betting market is pretty competitive when it comes to the Travers Stakes, with Sierra Leone looking like the potential favourite ahead of this ten furlong encounter. Chad C Brown saddles a runner who has run well in his past three outings, with the latest effort being second at Saratoga when losing by a length against Fierceness.
The year started with a victory at Fair Grounds when beating eleven other runners, with this being followed by a success at Keeneland. There was then a second-placed effort at Churchill Downs, with the horse finishing second in the Kentucky Derby and there is plenty to therefore recommend this runner for a hot encounter.
Fierceness was successful at Saratoga last time out and that came after a disappointing showing in the Kentucky Derby when finishing well down the pecking order despite being sent off as favourite. However, there was a success in the Florida Derby over one mile and one furlong, with the bookies respecting his chances this time around.
Thorpedo Anna is an interesting runner who has bagged four successive victories, with this including a double success at Saratoga. These were solid wins by a substantial distance, with this coming after a victory in the Kentucky Oaks. She’s hard to rule out considering that there’s a mares’ allowance and this could be a good each-way wager.
