2025 Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle Betting Odds at Ascot racecourse

Saturday, 20 December 2025

The Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle is set to take place on Saturday 20 December, with this being the final race on the Ascot card and it’s run over one mile, seven and a half furlongs. It’s a Premier Handicap and there are three horses trading at single figure betting odds. Alexei and Wilful are currently trading at the shortest odds, with the horses aged five and six respectively.

The former is bidding for a consecutive hat-trick of successes, with Wilful having posted a runner-up spot and a third placed finish this term. Mondo Man has also been second and that happened on his seasonal debut, with Gary & Josh Moore hoping that their young horse can produce a strong performance over nearly two miles.

2025 Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle Betting Tips

There are as many as eighteen horses lining up in the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle and Alexei is one of the top-weighted runners in the field. However, it hasn’t stopped the bookies installing the charge as one of the betting favourites. The latest success came at Cheltenham in mid-November where the runner was able to score by a six-length distance.

That came after winning at Ascot at the beginning of November, with the horse previously running well at Chepstow. Wilful is much lower down the weights order, with Jonjo O’Neill saddling a six-year-old that finished second in a big field at Punchestown at the end of April. Then came a third-placed finish in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Chepstow Racecourse.

Mondo Man is among the younger horses lining up in this encounter, with the four-year-old bidding to build on an encouraging second-place on a seasonal debut. That effort came in a small field at Lingfield Park, with the runner previously outperforming his odds in the Ormonde Stakes at Chester. The 33/1 poke was only three lengths behind 6/5 favourite Illinois.

There’s then a jump in the betting odds to Helnwein and Fiercely Proud. The former runs for Alan King and landed successive runner-up performances this season. The latest one saw the horse follow home Alexei at Cheltenham, with that coming after a stellar effort at Haydock Park when finishing second in the Swinton Handicap Hurdle.

2024 Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle Tips

The Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle is going to be an interesting affair, with Be Aware among the favourites to win this race over two miles. The horse has been runner-up in four consecutive encounters, with the latest effort coming at Cheltenham in mid-November when finishing second in the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle.

Dysart Enos was sent off as favourite in that particular race before falling short, with the horse finishing three and a half lengths off the pace, although that came after six successive victories. There was a success at Doncaster at the end of January, with that coming after a triumph at Cheltenham in the middle of December.

There could be more to come from Kabral Du Mathan and the four-year-old has scope for improvement, having landed a succession of victories for Paul Nicholls thus far. There’s been money for a charge who was able to triumph as the even money favourite at the end of November when obliging by nearly five lengths.

Secret Squirrel has claims and the Hughie Morrison-trained runner was able to secure third in a competitive race at Ascot last time out. The runner was three and a half lengths off the pace in the Lavazza Handicap Hurdle although he wasn’t able to find extra gears on that occasion and that came after finishing fifth out of a field of twenty at Sandown.
