2023 Belmont Stakes Betting Odds at Belmont Park racecourse

Saturday, 10 June 2023

The Belmont Stakes is one of the biggest races on the US racing calendar, with Forte bidding to continue his winning run at Belmont Park. Back to back wins at Gulfstream Park has set the horse up nicely for a success in this race although this is a tough assignment for a runner who will go up against other top-class runners over twelve furlongs.

There’s an enormous pot of money on the table and there are lots of other potential contenders, with Angel Of Empire trading at a relatively short price. Similarly, Tapit Trice has been shortening for this encounter, although the betting is wide open for this contest and perhaps many punters will be looking at National Treasure as an each-way alternative.

2023 Belmont Stakes Tips

Forte has barely put a foot wrong over the past four races, with the three-year-old having landed a double victory at Keeneland before following this up with two successes at Gulfstream Park. Firstly came a victory in the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity over one mile, half a furlong, with the runner touching off favourite Loggins by a neck.

Then came a success in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, while the horse has kicked on this season with a victory in the Fountain of Youth Stakes where the runner achieved a relatively comfortable win in this Grade 2 encounter. The Florida Derby saw Forte also trading at shorter odds and Todd Pletcher will have high hopes for this charge.

Angel Of Empire was able to finish third in the recent Kentucky Derby where Flavien Prat gave the horse a worthwhile ride over one mile and two furlongs, with the horse previously winning the Arkansas Derby and Brad H Cox was in the winners’ enclosure as recently as 2021 when saddling Essential Quality to victory two years ago.

Trainer Todd Pletcher has another decent contender in the form of Tapit Trice, with the horse finishing seventh out of eighteen runners in the Kentucky Derby. Previously to this, the horse landed a victory in the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes which was a tough Grade 1 encounter and this was over one mile and one furlong.

Mo Donegal was sent off at betting odds of 101/10 to win the 2022 Kentucky Derby and travelled well over one mile and two furlongs of fast ground at Churchill Downs. Having been in the rear at the beginning of the race, the horse made headway two furlongs out and got bumped at an inopportune time.

Previously to this, jockey Joel Rosario gave the horse a tremendous spin to achieve victory in the Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct over one mile and one furlong, with the horse sent off at 43/20 on that occasion and there was also a third-placed finish at Gulfstream Park in the Holy Bull Stakes.

However, some punters might prefer the chances of We The People who has already notched a win at Belmont Stakes during a relatively short career. Sent off at betting odds of 59/20, the horse made no mistake when obliging by an impressive ten lengths in the Peter Pan Stakes.

Further improvement might be needed to win this clash, with Rich Strike an interesting price considering that the Eric R Reed-trained horse is bidding to add a Belmont Stakes victory to the Kentucky Derby triumph that was recorded just a few weeks ago.

It was an unbelievable shock considering that the horse was sent off at 81/1 and barely given a chance of securing a victory, although the runner made a strong challenge from three furlongs out and was able to sustain his assault on the leaders to get the job done.

It’s safe to say that Rich Strike isn’t anything like those racing betting odds for this encounter, with the horse having previously run well in the Jeff Ruby Steaks when finishing third in a Grade 3 encounter at Turfway Park.
