2024 bet365 Handicap Betting Odds at Newmarket racecourse

Thursday, 11 July 2024

The Bet Boost At bet365 Handicap is run over six furlongs and is one of the highlight races on Day One of the July meeting at Newmarket, with this looking like a decent each-way race which will feature as many as twenty runners. Elmonjed and Woodhay Wonder are trading at single figure prices and there are several others in with a chance.

Al Shabab Storm and Dark Vintage could be on the shortlist, with Dorney Lake having clocked up back to back successes this season and the three-year-old is certainly in the conversation. Tropical Island and Formidable Force are the other horses who have lively each-way prospects in what should be an entertaining race.

Elmonjed is trained by William Haggas and the horse finished third last time out in a field of seventeen runners. That was at York and it came a month before a sixth-placed appearance at the Knavesmire in a field of fifteen runners. There were victories last season when the horse triumphed at Haydock and Lingfield.

Woodhay Wonder knows how to win a race and Tom Ward trains a horse who finished fourth out of twenty-eight runners at Royal Ascot. Hitting the frame in the Palace of Holyrood House Stakes was a decent achievement, with this coming after a double success at Newmarket and there could be more to come from this runner.

Al Shabab Storm was victorious last time out, with Andrew Balding on board a runner who claimed a triumph at Chester towards the end of June. This came after finishing second out of thirteen horses at Goodwood towards the end of May, with this coming after a runner-up appearance at Chester earlier in the month.

Dark Vintage was sent off at 66/1 in the Palace of Holyrood House Stakes before a credible sixth-placed finish and that came after producing a strong effort in the Westow Stakes at York where the runner finished third out of six runners. The fact that Big Evs was the odds-on winner on that occasion means it was a stiff five furlong outing.

Desert Cop might have finished sixth last time out although that should be tempered by the fact that the horse wound up landing this position in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot. Sent off at odds of 40/1, the runner punched above his weight and only finished five lengths behind eventual winner Bradsell, with that coming after a bright performance at Newbury.

The horse was runner-up behind Shaquille in the BetVictor Carnarvon Stakes over six furlongs and the horse was a big price for that encounter. However, we’re likely to see a shorter price this time around, with Kerdos having finished runner-up in the Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes over five furlongs at Royal Ascot.

The horse was previously third in a five furlong handicap at Chester, with Magical Sunset another runner that turned out at the Royal Ascot meeting. Finishing eighth place in the Sandringham Stakes was a decent outcome at betting odds of 25/1, with the horse having also acquitted himself well when finishing fourth in a listed race at Epsom.

Alpha Capture has plenty to prove after finishing dead last at Lingfield at the beginning of March, with Mill Stream finishing third in a Sprint Handicap at York Racecourse. That was a solid performance out of twenty-one runners, with the horse having found the company too strong in the Betfred Nifty Fifty Sandy Lane Stakes which was a Group 2 encounter.

Changing Colours has enjoyed three smart races thus far, with the three-year-old having last been seen in the British Stallion Studs EBF Spindrifter Conditions Stakes back in June. Sent off as the 1/2 favourite, the runner finished second and a defeat by Shandy Star on that occasion does not mean that we should be persuaded to back this horse.

The fact that this horse is owned by Godolphin and trained by Charlie Appleby sometimes means that runners are trading artificially short, with Kerdos having run in the past month and the three-year-old finishing second in a handicap on the all-weather at Lingfield Park, with previous victories coming at Haydock and Windsor.

Pinafore was successful in his past outing although this happened a while ago, with the three-year-old having obliged in a fillies’ novices stakes on the all-weather at Kempton Racecourse back in September, with the horse previously running second at Yarmouth Racecourse and there is merit in considering an each-way wager.

Shouldvebeenaring is an interesting contender and the horse has had a really recent outing, with the Richard Hannon-trained charge having finished second as the 2/1 favourite at Wolverhampton, with this race taking place on 7 April. Ferrous and California Gem are other runners of note, with Immortal Beauty being ridden by Ryan Moore.
