2025 Sky Bet Handicap Betting Odds at York racecourse

Friday, 22 August 2025

The Sky Bet Handicap could feature as many as nineteen runners, with William Haggas saddling the favourite in the race. The Reverend has been installed as the market leader, with the horse having landed the spoils last time out. We’re also interested in Beylerbeyi and the five-year-old is bidding for a fourth consecutive win.

Defiance has racked up a couple of solid performances and can’t be easily discounted, with Roger Varian training a four-year-old who could easily hit the frame. Mount Atlas was in the winners’ enclosure last time out, with French Duke another Roger Varian-trained charge who is trading at single figure betting odds.

2025 Sky Bet Handicap Betting Tips

There are lots of viable winners of the Sky Bet Handicap when the runners and riders battle it out over one mile and four furlongs. The Reverend was a winner last time out, with the horse obliging at Ripon as the 4/7 favourite. This came after a solid May effort at York where a fifth-placed finish was landed out of twelve runners in the Jorvik Handicap.

Then we have Beylerbeyi who has found the winning touch in the past three encounters. The five-year-old started off this victorious run at York in July, with this being a 16/1 triumph over one mile and four furlongs. Then came an August success at Newmarket, the 9/4 shot obliging by over four lengths.

The latest effort came at Chepstow, with the runner able to hold off the rest of the field to notch a success. However, Defiance was impressive at Goodwood last time out when scooping third out of eighteen in the Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap. This came after landing fourth in the Betfred Nifty 50 Handicap.

Mount Atlas was in the winners’ enclosure last time out. Trained by Andrew Balding, this is the top weight in the race although there was everything to like about an effort at Ascot in July. There was a one-length success on that occasion, with that coming after finishing fifth out of eighteen runners in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes.

2023 Sky Bet Handicap Tips

Owl Island is trading as the favourite for the Sky Bet Handicap, with Simon & Ed Crisford now seeing how the horse fares away from an all-weather surface. There have been victories at Chelmsford and Wolverhampton, with the latter win coming over seven furlongs where the horse was able to achieve a three length victory on 23 May.

Darkness is a more experienced campaigner and there have been successive runner-up performances at Epsom and Goodwood Racecourse. The David O’Meara-trained charge was able to outrun his odds of 20/1 when finishing second at the former track and then went to Sussex where the horse was narrowly beaten by a short head in a seven furlong handicap.

Doctor Khan Junior is an interesting runner who has recorded successive victories in the previous two races, with the first of these coming on the all-weather at Newcastle racecourse, with the next win coming against a big field at York Racecourse. The fact that the horse has already run well at this track is a big positive coming into this encounter.

Eligible can’t be ruled out of proceedings, with Michael & David Easterby having a seven-year-old who has already run a number of times. The latest outing saw the horse land a victory out of a big field at York, with this handicap triumph coming over seven furlongs after several previous performances on all-weather surfaces.
