2025 John Smith's City Walls Stakes Betting Tips
Trainer Kevin Ryan could well be in the winners’ enclosure when it comes to the John Smith's City Walls Stakes on Saturday. After all, the handler has the first three in the betting right now, with Washington Heights possibly the pick of the bunch. The five-year-old may only have finished seventh last time out but it was a competitive Royal Ascot encounter.
Sent off at odds of 40/1 in the King Charles III Stakes, the horse performed admirably in this Group One encounter. He was only two lengths off the pace and that came after a solid showing at Haydock Park when finishing third out of eleven places. Ain’t Nobody is a younger stablemate who is trading at a similar price and also has a solid chance.
The horse will also be favourably handicapped for this encounter, with the runner also outperforming his odds of 50/1 when finishing ninth out of twenty-one horses at Royal Ascot. That effort came in the Commonwealth Cup over six furlongs, with the horse only five and a half lengths from the front on that occasion.
Grand Grey could also be a prime contender and is the third of the Kevin Ryan-trained contenders, with the horse finding the going a bit tough at Royal Ascot. The 50/1 chance lined up in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes and landed eleventh place out of fourteen runners, with Jm Jungle another one for the shortlist.

Regional has been a strong performer for trainer Edward Bethell and the five-year-old is now bidding for a seasonal hat-trick. We’ve seen the horse claim wins at York and Haydock, with the former victory coming in the Lindum York Handicap over five furlongs on good ground. More recently, there was another success in the Sky Bet Achilles Stakes.
Equilateral is a talented runner who lines up for trainer Charles Hills, with the eight-year-old having served up back to back runner-up performances before landing a fifth placed spot in the King’s Stand Stakes. There was only four lengths between the horse and eventual winner Bradsell and there could be more to come.
Queen Me could be set to run a blinder and there was plenty to like about a sixth-placed finish in the Commonwealth Cup, with the horse sent off at 28/1 for this six furlong encounter. There was only three lengths between the runner and eventual winner Shaquille in what was a close finish, with more to potentially come here.
Silky Wilkie is a four-year-old who may choose to run elsewhere but has to stand a lively chance of success, with Great State having claimed back to back wins this season. The horse ran to victory at Thirsk and the Richard Fahey-trained runner obliged over five furlongs before a win in the Westow Stakes over the same distance.
