2025 Westow Stakes Betting Odds at York racecourse

Thursday, 15 May 2025

Aesterius returns to the track in the Westow Stakes, with Archie Watson’s three-year-old aiming to land a victory. This is the highest-rated runner in an encounter over five furlongs, with Tropical Storm having finished sixth last time out and we could see the horse finishing in the final shake-up. The same applies to Star Of Mehmas.

Mr Lightside might be seen by many as a good each-way wager, with the horse finishing second on the all-weather last time out. Treasure Isle goes for Aidan O’Brien and had plenty of experience as a two-year-old, with Kullazain trained by James Tate and he also has a victory to his name.

There are thirteen runners lining up for the Westow Stakes on Thursday. Aesterius has been able to land two victories from his previous three performances. Archie Watson saw his charge oblige at Longchamp in the Prix d’Arenberg over five furlongs when winning by a length and a half. That came before a success at Doncaster.

That victory came in the Flying Childers Stakes, with the horse seeing off Big Mojo by a narrow margin. That was over five furlongs, with the runner then heading to Del Mar in the Breeders’ Cup meeting. In the Juvenile Turf Sprint, there was a sixth-placed finish in the Grade 1 encounter in the United States although there are other competitors.

Tropical Storm was sixth in his seasonal debut when Andrew Balding saw his charge achieve a midfield finish at Newmarket in early May. That came after finishing fourth out of ten horses at Doncaster, with the best performance so far coming at York. The 5/2 favourite was impressive when landing an August success in a listed race.

Star Of Mehmas was last seen running on the all-weather at Chelmsford on the all-weather, with that coming after a September success at Ayr. That was preceded by all-weather successes at Wolverhampton and Lingfield, with Mr Lightside running for Michael Appleby when the horse was able to finish second on his seasonal debut.

Big Evs could be the banker bet at York Racecourse on Thursday, with the horse having six other runners for company. Some think that his only viable opponent is Kylian, with the rest of the field all trading at bigger prices. The Michael Appleby-trained runner has already claimed some notable victories during his career and this could be the latest one.

There was a victory at Santa Anita in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint when the horse was able to oblige over five furlongs to land a massive cash prize. That came after a success at Doncaster in the Flying Childers Stakes where the horse was able to land a three length triumph after a disappointing display in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York.

Kylian is trained by Archie Watson and returns to the track after a long absence, with the horse having finished fifth in that Doncaster race which was won by Big Evs. That came after finishing sixth out of ten runners at York, with the horse sent off as the 9/4 favourite in the Gimcrack Stakes but unable to make a big impression.

Big Evs and Kylian met at Goodwood last summer when battling it out in the Molecomb Stakes over five furlongs, with the former able to claim a victory after making a quick start. It’s clear that he’s the one to beat here, with Mon Na Slieve next in the betting although there’s a big jump in price after the first two in the market.
