Bellewstown Racecourse Home to the Yellow Sam Coup
The most famous incident to ever happen at Bellewstown Racecourse was the Yellow Sam betting coup. On 26 June 1975, professional gambler Barney Curley was able to take advantage of an under-handicapped horse in order to profit in a big way. The runner was bought by Curley and aimed at a race at Bellewstown, with the handicap allowance being more than generous as a result. Curley carefully selected Bellewstown Racecourse due to the fact that the price wasn't going to change as quickly as you might find with other courses. Yellow Sam was able to win the thirteen-hurdle encounter when obliging by two and a half lengths.
