Bet on the Harvest Festival Including Kerry National
The largest race meeting at Listowel is the Harvest Festival. This was previously known as the North Kerry Hunt Steeplechase Meeting and it features a number of prominent races. The Harvest Festival takes place over seven days, making it the second-best attended meeting in Ireland after the Galway Festival which has a similar duration.
There are Listowel racecards that feature National Hunt and Flat encounters, with the biggest race being the Guinness Kerry National. On the Wednesday of the Harvest Festival, you can bet on this race as the runners and riders compete over three miles. It's a strong test of stamina and is always a popular betting race.
There are several prominent winners of the Kerry National including Monty's Pass. The horse then went on to win the Aintree Grand National as an Irish raider. It's always good to study the form and look at the Listowel racecards for inspiration. You can find out how much weight each horse is carrying and the best bets for the action.
Before the Harvest Festival, there's also a June Festival which attracts plenty of star quality in terms of horses, jockeys and trainers. There's an outer and inner track which play host to the various encounters. The outside track measures roughly one mile and three furlongs, with the inner track a much shorter distance over a mile. There are usually nine race meetings which are held at Listowel Racecourse over the course of the calendar year. This tends to include the two-day fixture in June before there's a big procession of horses that head to the Harvest Festival in the autumn.
The Harvest Festival originally began as a two-day affair although its ongoing popularity means that it has been gradually extended and means that racegoers can enjoy a week-long jamboree of racing. In 2002, we saw Alamshar land a notable victory at the Harvest Festival and the same horse ended up landing a success in the Irish Derby and King George.
